with sensory, social, expressive and communicative functions.

Occupational therapy

Elise Marenghi, an occupational therapist experienced in upper limb rehabilitation and custom-made splints, will be happy to welcome you to the Leman Hand Clinic for specialized treatment, in close collaboration with Dr Bejic.

What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy is a health profession specialized in the rehabilitation of people with limitations in their daily activities due to injury or illness. It is aimed at people of all ages (children, adults, the elderly).

In the field of hand and upper limb rehabilitation, occupational therapy plays a crucial role in helping individuals to maintain or recover their functionality, so that they can enjoy optimum levels of autonomy and independence in their daily activities.

When should you seek help ?

As soon as possible after surgery or as exclusive treatment following :

Accidents : fractures, sprains, dislocations, amputations, etc. (hand, wrist, elbow)

Diseases : joints (osteoarthritis, arthritis), nerves (carpal tunnel syndrome, neuropathy), tendons (De Quervain's tendonitis, epicondylitis), trigger fingers, Dupuytren's disease, CRPS (Complex regional pain syndrome), etc.

Rehabilitation ?

Rehabilitation of the hand and upper limb aims to restore the individual's motor, sensory and functional abilities, enabling them to regain optimum participation in their daily activities (family, work and leisure).

Our methods

Occupational therapists use a variety of methods and approaches to achieve rehabilitation goals, tailored to the specific needs and wishes of each patient. This may include :

  • mobilization exercises
  • muscle strengthening techniques
  • massage
  • coordination and dexterity activities
  • pain and inflammation management strategies

In addition to traditional approaches, occupational therapists also use technology to facilitate rehabilitation. This may include the use of bespoke splints, functional electrical stimulation equipment, taping....

Interdisciplinary collaboration

Rehabilitation of the hand and upper limb requires close collaboration between the surgeon, the occupational therapist and the patient.

This collaboration can be extended to other healthcare professionals (physiotherapist, neurologist, orthopaedic surgeon, etc.) to ensure personalized care for the patient.

Education and autonomy

In addition to rehabilitation itself, occupational therapy also focuses on therapeutic education and patient empowerment by teaching adaptation techniques, ergonomic strategies, and self-education exercises to promote recovery.

Covered costs

Occupational therapy services are reimbursed by basic health insurance (LAMal), accident insurance (LAA), social security or international insurances.
